Vanessa Marianna-Fisk: The Pinnacle of Power

They say behind a strong man is an even stronger woman. That is not the case with the power couple of Wilson and Vanessa Fisk. I would like to thank Lacy Bauger who has been a huge inspiration to my writing, especially in regards to my favorite villains thanks to her pieces on both Fisk and Vanessa. Thank you, Miss Bauger. Now, onto greater things, like Hell's Kitchen's newest crime boss: Vanessa Marianna-Fisk (spoilers for Daredevil Season 3).

As I mentioned in my spoiler review of Daredevil Season 3, Vanessa seemed to be like Wilson in the first few episodes of season one: we hear her name throughout, but never see her. Sadly, we had to wait a whole eight episodes to see her again, but it was well worth the wait.

In this season, Vanessa not only is ever-present in Wilson's personal life, but also in his work life. Her willingness to be so close to his world, a world where she understands the dangers, is her showing her motivation to not allow herself to become an object, to not be another thing on Wilson's display.

Vanessa is not a woman to be ignored or trifled with. This is the woman who begged to know more about Wilson's world and in doing so, she ordered the death of Ray Nadeem. She uses every ounce of power and leverage she has and uses it to its full extent; some may say she's becoming like her husband: powerful, imposing, a romantic and an overall threat. I think not. She is all of those things, but she is not seclusive, she is not hesitant, and she is willing to allow herself to dirty her hands to make sure nothing comes between her and husband's world (hence: the romantic).

I am amazed by Ayelet Zurer's portrayal of such a powerhouse. The way Zurer eases her way into this season when we finally see Vanessa is a testament to how much power she truly holds, even if we're not aware of said power, we're hit with it the moment we see her.

Thank you again to Miss Lacy Baugher for helping find another writing passion: villains.
