A Star is Born: Worth the Trip?

Updated: Nov 9, 2018

In this 2018 version of A Star is Born (this one being the 3rd remake), it takes a look at a county star whose star is fading, and his new muse whose own star is brightening. This rendition is directed by Bradley Cooper and stars himself and Lady Gaga. This movie is a warning to those who aspire to enter fame, to show that it's not all it's cracked up to be. It's also incredibly sad. But the music is great! This is my review of A Star is Born.

I’m still deciding on whether or not I like this movie, let alone recommend it. I see this movie as one where you go for the stardom, ie: the new star that is Lady Gaga, as well as the incredible music but you will leave a sad, tearful mess. This film is complete Oscar bait, as it should, but I am not sure if it’s worth it for the public to digest.

Lady Gaga gives an astonishing performance and once she grows into the star that she is molded to be, that she sticks with and makes her own even if it’s just another pop singer with meaningless lyrics and a superstar persona. She is able to retain her character’s genuine love for music as she imbues her songs that she does not release with a pure and honest look of the world.

As for Cooper, his character is used to show the pain of addiction, in this case: alcoholism and drug addiction. The film shows his motivation for doing what he does, and why. It also highlights how he is so against Gaga’s character gaining any momentum in the music industry, because he knows how much it can destroy a person.

If any of this sounds at all intriguing to you and you wish to make the trip to your local cinema, go for it. My biggest wish for you is that you bring tissues. The emotional roller-coaster that is this film will come fast and hard when you least expect it.
